Why does my pet need anesthesia to have their teeth cleaned?
It’s been well established that animals don’t like having people fiddle around in their mouth. In order for us to do a thorough cleaning, we place pets under anesthesia to keep them from moving. The anesthetic allows us to perform dental radiographies (X-rays) and inspections below their gum line.
How will I know if my pet has dental issues?
Bad breath, irritability, bleeding gums, and awkward chewing (to avoid aggravating the afflicted area) are common signs your pet is having a dental problem. This could be a symptom of a broken tooth, decay or inflammation of their gums. If your pet is showing any of these signs, please don’t hesitate to bring them in for an appointment as soon as possible.
How can I maintain my pet’s dental care if they won’t let me brush their teeth?
It’s recommended that pets (cats and dogs) should have their teeth brushed at least three times a week. However, we know this is especially difficult with strong-willed pets. It helps to use a flavoured toothpaste to encourage a more delicious experience. You can get flavours in poultry, beef and peanut butter. In between teeth brushing, feeding your pet dental treats will help them rub plaque off and condition them to have strong and healthy teeth.
